This Master Use License is used by a film, video or television producer to contract with the owner of a recording (Artist or Record Company) to use a master recording of a song in a film, video, music video, television program, or television advertisement whereby the recording of a song is synchronized to the action on the screen. This agreement provides for the producer of the movie, tv show, etc. to be able to use it in other mediums such as movie rentals, streaming services, etc. that may generate other forms of income. It is necessary to obtain separate permission for use of the song from the owner of the song (Songwriter or Publisher). A Synchronization License is used for this permission. Further, if the producer wishes to use the recording in a soundtrack compilation album, the producer will need to obtain a separate license for this use.
