Composition License For Theatrical Play
Composition License For Theatrical Play
The Composition License For Theatrical Play is used by a theatrical producer, or creator, of a theatrical or musical play to contract with a songwriter, or the songwriter's publisher, to use a song in the play or musical. This license is obtained from the songwriter, or songwriter's publisher, for use of the song. This license is designed to be used when a song is part of the theatrical play as in a musical and sung by an actor. However, the terms could be changed if the producer wants to use a recording of the song as background in a play and not necessarily as part of a musical. However, the producer of the play would also need to obtain the rights to the recording from the owner of the recording (e.g. the recording artist or record label) that recorded the song if the songwriter does not own a recording of the song.
